Man charged with lawn chair beating

A Statesville man is charged with robbing a man and beating him with a lawn chair.According to the Record & Landmark of Statesville, 36-year-old Kenneth Wayne Mills is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Authorities say Mills struck an unidentified 46-year-old man in the back of the head with a lawn chair, knocking him unconscious and then stole his money.

It happened Saturday around 12:30 a.m. as the man left a neighbor's house.

The victim told Iredell County Sheriff's deputies he was headed home when he was hit in the back of the head.

The man was unconscious for a number of hours before he woke up and went home. After arriving home, his wife called EMS and the man was taken to the hospital and treated for facial injuries.

Authorities found a blood stained lawn chair near where the victim said he was assaulted.
