Suspect wanted in Food Lion robbery

CHAPEL HILL The suspect smashed a window, entered the store and filled a trash can with tobacco products around 4 a.m.

Police said the suspect appeared to be an African American man, possibly bald and standing between 6 feet, 2 to 3 inches tall.

The suspect was wearing a green shirt, blue jeans and white and black shoes. He also appeared to be wearing light colored gloves, possibly surgical, and had his face covered with clothing.

The car the suspect got away in appeared to be a silver four-door 1989 or 1990 Toyota Corolla with some damage above the front wheel on the passenger side.

Police said they believed the suspect may also be responsible for three other Food Lion store break-ins between July 7 and July 12 in Hillsborough, Durham and Creedmoor.

If anyone has information about the suspect, please call either the Chapel Hill Police Department at 968-2760 or Crime Stoppers at 942-7515. Calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential and anonymous, and the caller may be eligible for a cash reward up to $2,000 for information that leads to arrest.
