While investigating a death is not unusual, apparently what detectives found inside the home was.

"Once we obtained search warrants and got inside and started our investigation then we saw things that didn't look right," offered Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison.

Harrison wouldn't say what exactly his officers found, but late Friday, the medical examiner's office said the preliminary cause of death was blunt trauma.

Authorities charged 55-year-old Jolene Hardy with the murder of her husband, 60-year-old Gerald Hardy.

When she called 911, she claimed her husband had mental problems and was ill.

"He was picked up by the Apex Police about a year ago, because it was like 4 a.m. in the morning," She told the operator. "He was out there going to the (inaudible) areas, because he doesn't want to die of his lymphoma."

Deputies and crime scene officials were at the couple's home overnight collecting evidence.

Investigators also towed a car from the residence early Friday morning.

A motive for the murder hasn't been released.

Jolene Hardy is being held in the Wake County Jail without bond.
