Pictures of the monster quickly spread on the internet. There are even several pages on Facebook dedicated to supporting Carnevale.
The owner of the barrels, Guilford County-based Hamlett Associaties, told reporters that it didn't want to press charges and even wanted to display the monster at its offices.
In court Tuesday, a judge sentenced Carnevale to 50 hours community service. He's due back in court in October for a review of his compliance.
If he completes the community service, the charges will be dropped.
