On Saturday, another witness reported a man driving a lawn tractor on Baywood Road. Deputies were dispatched but were unable to locate the man.
About eight hours after that sighting, Eastover Mayor Charles McLaurin reported his lawn tractor and a chainsaw stolen.
Detectives eventually connected the two sightings and arrested Gann at his grandmother's house in Wade. He also took detectives to a wooded area where McLaurin's mower, chainsaw and another mower were hidden.
Gann is charged with larceny and two counts of possession of stolen property. He is out of jail on a $5,000 bond.
When deputies arrested him, they also served an outstanding warrant for driving while impaired on a lawn mower.
Gann's court appearance is scheduled for September 9.
