Fayetteville police said around 4 a.m. Saturday they received a call that a pedestrian was hit on Sycamore Dairy Road near the McDonalds on Bragg Boulevard. When authorities arrived at the scene they found a person lying in the roadway.

The victim was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where they later died. Police are not releasing the person's identity at this time.

Officials are also not releasing the identity of driver that struck the pedestrian.

However, they did say the driver was headed toward the direction of Fort Bragg. The vehicle was stopped a few blocks away from the accident. Authorities are investigating whether it was a hit-and-run or if the driver even knew they hit someone.

Officials had to close Sycamore Dairy Road during the incident, but it has since been reopened.
