While on patrol, Deputy G.H. Teal spotted McDaniel riding his scooter on Highway 301 towards the Carriage House Apartments. Teal said McDaniel was travelling well above the legal speed limit for the scooter so Teal attempted to pull McDaniel over.
According to the NC DMV Website, in order to operate a scooter without a license, the scooter cannot travel above 30 mph.
McDaniel did not pull over and drove behind the apartment complex. That's when McDaniel collided with a sandbox and fled on foot.
Authorities eventually found McDaniel hiding in a nearby apartment.
They also charged 28-year-old Brian Oneal Tillery of Enfield with resist, delay, and obstructing an officer for attempting to prevent officers from taking McDaniel into custody.
Both men were taken to the Halifax County Jail.
