WakeMed announces 85 job cuts

RALEIGH The cuts will not include nursing staff. According to a letter sent to staff by WakeMed President and CEO William Atkinson, more than one-third of the reductions are in VPs, directors and managers.

Those who are affected will be notified by September 3.

Atkinson said some of the displaced employees will have the opportunity to serve in another capacity within the WakeMed system. Also, there will be opportunities in Raleigh's new patient tower.

In addition to job cuts, WakMed will offset its loss of funding with reduced departmental spending in areas such as marketing, advertising and non-clinical equipment and expenses.

WakeMed employs 7,576 people.
