State health officials recommend everyone get a regular flu shot now and then get a special shot to protect against swine flu when the vaccine becomes available later this year.
North Carolina has reported nine deaths and 193 people have been hospitalized with swine flu this year.
Health officials worry the disease will spread faster now with schools and colleges back in session and the weather turning cooler.
