Witnesses told investigators that a group of friends were playing cards outside the home when a SUV with four to six men inside pulled up.
The men said they were police and pointed handguns, shotguns, and rifles at the card players and ordered them down on the ground. They then started robbing them.
Police say 17-year-old Jermaine Larquez Lynch saw what was happening and tried to run away. He was shot in the upper body and was pronounced dead at Nash General Hospital.
Detectives have limited descriptions of the gunmen who were masked and wearing dark clothing. They're asking for anyone with information about the crime to call Crimestoppers at (252) 977-1111 or Detective Michael Lewis at (252) 972-1457.
