Spring Lake investigation finished

SPRING LAKE The results are now in the hands of District Attorney Ed Grannis - who has not made any of the report public.

The investigation came after the SBI charged filed corruption charges against two Spring Lake police officers earlier this year and a judge stripped the department of its policing power. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office has handled policing duties in the interim.

"We hope to hear from him soon as to anyone that's currently working here is under suspicion of having done anything wrong," said Interim Police Chief Gregg Jarvies. "If not, we certainly hope that we get a message soon that they've been cleared so that when we're ready to go on the street in a few weeks that we can go on the

street."

Jarvies says the DA has several options at this point.

"He might refer it back to the SBI to do a little bit more work. He could review the document and decide that there's sufficient evidence to bring a case to the grand jury to seek an indictment on anyone mentioned in the report."
