The woman was identified as 32-year-old Autumn Martin.
Police said the altercation occurred between 36-year-old Felix Alley and an unidentified person. During the dispute at Alley's home, Martin was shot.
Authorities said Martin and Alley were not a couple and the shooting was not domestic.
Further details about the incident have not been released.
Alley is currently in Person County jail under no bond.
