The Detroit Pistons are teaming up with a NC-based charity to donate 1,000 pairs of new shoes and socks to children. The team is scheduled to be on hand Tuesday to help distribute the shoes at a Detroit event. It's part of the NBA Cares "Week of Service," where NBA teams are giving a day of community service.

The team is working with Charlotte-based Samaritan's Feet on the project.

Nigeria native Emmanuel Ohonme began the organization for the purpose of providing shoes to millions of people around the world. He and his wife live in Charlotte.
