According to the Daily Reflector of Greenville, the university's dental school will open community service learning centers in Elizabeth City, Ahoskie and Sylva. The school said it plans to open a total of ten.
North Carolina's ratio of dentists to the population is below the national average. Four counties don't have dentists at all, and dentists in five more counties are close to retirement.
Dental students will spent their fourth year working at one of the centers. The dental school will open in 2011.
