Soldier arrested in shootings

SPRING LAKE Officials arrested 19-year-old Bryant Keith Holmes, who is believed to be a member of a Quarter Master Company at Fort Bragg, on Wednesday.

Investigators say Holmes and 28-year old Eric Jervey, Jr. allegedly attempted to rob a home on Alden Street in Spring Lake on October 26.

During the incident, 21-year-old Christopher Bridges-Mitchell, also a Fort Bragg soldier, was shot and taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he later died. Norman V. Brown, 28, Tony Brown, 26, and LaQuan Demar Whitted, 31, were also shot. All three were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment and later released.

Holmes is charged with felony conspiracy and accessory after the fact. Holmes was a passenger in a car that dropped Bridges-Mitchell off at the hospital.

Jervey is charged with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, felony conspiracy and first degree burglary. Jervey turned himself into police last week.

Holmes has been released from the Cumberland County Detention to the military under a $5,000 unsecured bond. He will make a first court appearance on Thursday in the Detention Center Courtroom.
