Man sentenced for stabbing best friend

RALEIGH Mojica was convicted of second-degree murder and could serve a maximum of 20 years and 5 months.

He was 18 years old when the stabbing happened. According to Raleigh police, officers responded to a stabbing call at a home on Oxleymare Drive shortly after 5 a.m. on August 24, 2008.

They discovered the victim, 18-year-old Christopher Rivera Jimenez, with a stab wound. He later died at WakeMed.

Police said Mojica stabbed Jimenez in the back with a 12-in kitchen knife while he was sleeping.

That same day, police said Mojica turned himself in to Johnston County authorities.

Mojica and Jimenez had been childhood friends. Police said Mojica confessed that the two had been fighting before the stabbing but it is not known what the two were arguing about.
