State highway remains closed at OBX

RALEIGH Even at low tide, waves are washing across the highway. Some pavement has been washed away and will need to be replaced. NCDOT engineers will have a better assessment of the extent of damage to the pavement once the surf dies down.

N.C. 12 is open on Pea Island north of Rodanthe, as well as on Ocracoke Island.

High water has also closed off parts of Beach Road in Kitty Hawk. NCDOT is assisting Kitty Hawk crews in pumping water off the road. Traffic is open on N.C. 158.
