Multiple shootings ring in New Year for Raleigh

RALEIGH

The first happened around 3 a.m. Witness said a man shot a gun in the air, and then fired at least 5 more times in the parking lot of the Hilton Garden Inn at 6412 Capital Boulevard. Three people were hit by the gunfire.

"I saw a gentleman raise a gun into the air, and fire a shot and then I immediately threw the car into reverse and started backing out and he started shooting rapid fire immediately after that," a witness who asked not be identified told ABC11 Eyewitness News.

"It was scary. I was terrified, just because I know things like that happen. People get caught in crossfire all the time," the person continued.

Jeffrey LaQuan Whitney, 20, James Louis Boone, 18, and Kenneth Houston Boone, 19, all went to WakeMed with non-life threatening injuries.

Police did not have a good description of the shooter from witnesses and he was still at large.

The second incident began with a fight inside a Waffle House at 2624 Westinghouse Blvd - just outside I-440. Two men got into argument and then scuffled. Witnesses told ABC11 one pulled out gun and shot the other in the leg.

"The two gentlemen started fighting. I went up to the window to see what was going on, and at that point they had backed off. One of them pulled out the gun, shot the other one in the leg, um, other guy didn't really seem to be fazed by it, he was like, are you kidding me? The other guy then ran out, got in his car and drove that way," said witness Gerry Blanke.

People around the eatery scattered.

"It was crazy," recalled witness Shana Miller. "Like what is going on? I ran here right behind this dumpster."

Demario Adarius Richardson, 26, of Durham, was taken to WakeMed with non-life threatening injuries. Detectives said the shooter was still at large.

The restaurant was evacuated by police and remained closed for several hours.
