Five-year-old sets home on fire

HOLY SPRINGS The boy, Elijah Farrington, described to ABC11 Eyewitness News what happened moments before his home went up in flames.

"I got the lighter and the house just burned," he said.

The blaze broke out around 8:45 p.m. at a home in the 200 block of West Ballentine Street, near Avent Ferry Road. Firefighters from Apex and Holly Springs were at the scene for more than an hour trying to put out the blaze.

The boy's father, Wallace Farrington, was also inside the home at the time. He said as soon as he realized what happened, he got Elijah and his 11-year-old brother out and called police.

By the time firefighters arrived the family was outside. No one was injured.

Officials said the house was a total loss.

The family is getting help from the Red Cross.
