Mystery hit-and-run leaves man dead

Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that happened late Sunday or early Monday in eastern Durham.

Officers went to the 200 block of Chandler Road at 1:07 a.m. Monday after getting a report of a male lying by the side of the road. When officers arrived, they found a man in his late teens or early 20s lying near the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Joseph Sanders.

Durham police say they are looking for a silver 2006-2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser that may have damage on the right side.
