Authorities: Real estate agent grew pot at houses

CUMBERLAND COUNTY

James Jess Castillo, 41, surrendered to authorities Monday following a raid on his home last week. He allegedly maintained two homes in the Vander community and cultivated hundreds of marijuana plants on those properties.

Agents uncovered elaborate hydroponics drug operations at both homes on Clinton Road. The marijuana is estimated to have street value of $150,000.

Investigators say he also had stashed cultivating equipment in an RV on his property and had begun plans to expand his illegal operation.

Castillo is charged with manufacturing marijuana, felony possession of marijuana and maintaining a dwelling for the sale of a controlled substance. He was released from jail on a $30,000 bond.
