Back to state prison for nursing home shooter

CARTHAGE

A defense lawyer successfully convinced a judge to make the move on Tuesday.

Stewart had been kept at Central Prison in Raleigh, but was moved to the Moore County jail about three weeks ago when he appeared for a court hearing.

Stewart's lawyer requested the 46-year-old - who was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with a Carthage police officer - be moved back to Central Prison because he said the level of health care was better, and Stewart is safer in the state facility.
