In the months since the kidnapping and murder of Somer Thompson - the 7-year-old Florida girl whose body was found in October - her father, who lives in Alamance County, has hoped Florida detectives would get a break. This week, it was made public that 24-year-old Jarred Harrell has been named as a person of interest.

"We prayed diligently for God to lead them in the right direction to find this person and obviously if they found him in Mississippi, you know, they have been working really hard," Somer's father Sam Thompson said.

Harrell is a former neighbor of Somer Thompson. He has been charged with dozens of counts of possession of child pornography.

"I have a strong feeling that this could be the person," Sam Thompson said.

Thompson's former wife, Somer's mother, also has strong feelings - feelings that whoever killed her daughter should be put to death.

However, Thompson says he wouldn't go that far.

"I think he should be put away in a solitary confinement cell with no sunlight for the rest of life," Sam Thompson said. "You know, he should, he should have to suffer something, you know, just being executed - that's the easy way out."

Diena Thompson says she does look forward to the day she gets to confront her daughter's killer and ask why.

"Give me your best excuse, your best reason as to why you had to do this," Diena Thompson said.

Meanwhile, since Sam Thompson's daughter was abducted on her way home from school, he is now urging all parents not to let their early-elementary-school-aged children out of their sight - ever.
