Man shot outside Durham courthouse

DURHAM

Investigators say the incident began with some kind of altercation inside the courthouse building. Deputies working security ordered the groups involved outside and then forced them off the property when the fight continued on the courthouse steps.

As the confrontation continued down the street, police say someone in a gold colored car with tinted windows started shooting.

A bullet bounced off the ground and then hit a man in the foot. He was taken to Duke University Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. His name wasn't immediately released.

Courthouse security said no weapons were brought inside the building. ABC11 asked if security cameras recorded the incident and was told the building does not have camera system inside and the outside system is currently not working.

Funding for the system has been approved, but it hasn't been put out to bid yet.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Investigator A.C. Rogers at (919) 560-4935, extension 29416 or Durham CrimeStoppers at (919) 683-1200.
