Police investigate two more rapes in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE

On Sunday, officers responded at 6:30 a.m. to a call about a sexual assault near East Mountain Dr. and South Eastern Blvd. The victim, a 21-year-old woman, told officers she was raped by an unknown white male with brown hair.

On Monday, officers say another woman reported that she was raped around 1:30 a.m. by an unknown black male in the Pamalee Drive area. No other information is available at this time.

Investigators say there is no reason to believe that the two incidents are related to any of the unsolved rapes that are currently under investigation by the Sexual Assault Task Force. Police believe a serial rapist remains on the loose and is responsible for seven unsolved attacks in Fayetteville and Hope Mills.

Earlier this month a Fort Bragg soldier was arrested and charged with a rape that happened on post. There was speculation that Spc. Aaron M. Pernell also was a suspect in the serial rapes, but police later revealed that he was not a suspect.

Instead, they released a composite of the suspect they say has raped women in Cumberland and Hoke counties.
