Hundreds mourn slain Wake Co. man

RALEIGH The funeral for Nigel Ellison began just after1:00 this afternoon at the Haywood Funeral Home on South Wilimington Street in Raleigh. A viewing was held at noon.

The funeral home was filled to capacity - and some even had to stand outside during the service.

The Knightdale student was gunned down Sunday, March 21st in Raleigh.

Ellison's brother told ABC11 Eyewitness News that Ellison and a friend met up with the father of a girl Ellison knew when gunfire broke out on Sunday.

That's when Ellison was shot. He died at WakeMed, while the other victim, Kalife I. Johnson, was treated and released.

Earlier this week, police arrested 17-year-old Mariah Wisdom and charged her with attempted murder. The U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force then arrested her dad Rajal Wisdom and her brother, Rajal Wisdom, Jr., on Thursday in Alpharetta, GA. They face murder and attempted murder charges.

Meanwhile, Ellison's family is coping with the loss.

"It came to as a shock to me and my family," brother Thomas Whyte said. "I can't cope, my mom can't cope. I took it kind of hard, because I've been in that battle with him before and felt like I should have been there."

Whyte and his family set up a memorial to remember Ellison at the place where he lost his life off Skycrest Drive and Southall Road in north Raleigh.

Dozens of Ellison's friends and classmates have come to the memorial to show their support - some say they still can't believe it.

"He was a real loved guy nobody would expect that out of all people it would be Nigel," friend and classmate Tyler Hooley said.

Whyte says his brother was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now he just wants answers.
