Sheriff asks for help solving break-ins

Someone has been helping themselves to flat screen TVs and computers in Wayne County, and Sheriff C. A. Winders says he's had enough.

He offered a $500 reward Wednesday for information leading to the arrests of whoever is behind a string of recent home break-ins.

"I am sure that the state of our economy has led to this increase. It is not just Wayne County, but practically all the counties we have communications with. I am asking for the public to become involved and diligent," said Winders.

The sheriff said awareness is the key. He wants neighbors to report anything suspicious right away.

"We have had several break-ins that neighbors have told us, after the fact, that they saw a vehicle or a person at the victim’s residence but they did not call law enforcement," said Winders.

Winders said his officers have been working hard to solve burglary cases, and have made some arrest. Still, Winders says the break-ins continue.

To claim the reward, anyone with information can call Wayne County Crimestoppers at (919) 735-2255 or the Wayne County Sheriff's Office at (919) 731-1481.
