Two gas leaks reported in Fayetteville

The Fayetteville Fire Department and hazmat units tackled two separate gas leaks in Fayetteville Tuesday.

The first incident was reported around 9:45 a.m. near the intersection of Mechanic and Moore streets. Demolition crews working in the area ruptured a Piedmont Natural Gas line.

Authorities closed the area between Chatham, Web and Ramsey streets to traffic. Residents from a group home were moved to the gym at First Baptist Church on Moore St.

The second incident was reported around 10:15 a.m.at Nobie Street and Cumberland Rd. Authorities said there was a leak in a line that belongs to North Carolina Natural Gas.

Both leaks were capped by early afternoon.
