The alleged crime was reported to have occurred late Thursday afternoon in the Riverwood Athletic Subdivision.
Authorities said Friday it was reported that two children told police a stranger waived them down and approached the pair while they were jogging near Collinsworth Dr. and Swain Trail.
The department says it publicly announced the reported incident in an overabundance of caution in an attempt to make area residents and parents aware.
Upon further investigation by Clayton police, they indicated that the alleged attempted abduction did not occur.
Witnesses confirmed seeing the reported victim playing in the area about an hour before sunset, which is inconsistent with the 11-year-old's account of what happened.
Police say other information available to investigators supports the decision that this is an unfounded report.
Although filing a false police report is an offense, investigators have discussed the case with the child's guardians and no police action will be taken.
The child has not been identified because he is a juvenile.
