North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue has a new member of her family - grandchild number six.

Perdue's office said Hadley Hardison Perdue was born Thursday afternoon at a Raleigh hospital. She's the daughter of Perdue's son, Garrett, and his wife, April. It's the couple's second child. The baby - who will be known as Haddie - weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces and is 21 inches long.

The governor canceled much of Thursday's schedule so she could await the child's arrival.
