Detectives with the Cumberland County Sheriff's office have charged three Fayetteville men with stealing a law enforcement "bait car."

Jose Rashaan Akins, 28, of 323 South Cool Spring Street, Tenell Washington, 28, who is homeless and Edward Craig Allen, 39, who is also homeless, were taken into custody late Monday afternoon.

Deputies say surveillance video shows Akins getting into the vehicle, which was parked along a rural road in Cumberland County, and driving off.

He is later seen parking the vehicle in an apartment complex and attempting to break into the trunk. Akins, Washington and Allen are videotaped leaving the parking lot for a joy ride when they are stopped by deputies.

The men are charged with breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, misdemeanor larceny, felony larceny of a motor vehicle, felony possession of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit a felony and possession of stolen goods.

Akins bond was set at $20,000. He had an outstanding warrant for an arrest on a previous charge for stealing a car. Bonds for Washington and Allen were set at $10,000 each.
