NC Senate gives final vote to its budget

RALEIGH

The Senate voted 30-16 Thursday for final approval of its version of a $19 billion spending plan to run state government for the year starting July 1. Senate Democrats had cut off debate, so there was no additional discussion of the plan.

The bill goes to the House, where Democrats hope to get their version approved in two weeks. They've scheduled a public hearing Monday night on what should go into the plan.

The two chambers want to present a compromise version to Gov. Beverly Perdue before July 1.
