Second suspect in police chief shooting arrested

DURHAM

Agents arrested Tony Anthony "Big Red" Person in Middlesex, Massachusetts Friday.

Lopez released the following statement in response to Person's arrest:

"The suspects left the state immediately. It means they know this city isn't going to accept violent crimes. Staying in Durham is not a viable option for these guys because they're aware this community is going to work with the police department in an effort to catch them."

On May 11, authorities arrested Lebron "Gutta" Brown, in Lynn, Massachusetts. He continues to await extradition to NC.

Both men are charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. The suspects allegedly were involved in a shootout on April 29 that ended near downtown Durham.

Chief Lopez's car was struck with a bullet during that incident, but he was not injured.
