The victim, a 72-year-old man, told police he was at the Ashburn Inn on NC 48 when a man grabbed his wallet from his hand and ran out of the lobby.
The victim was paying the clerk for his room when he was robbed.
The 72-year-old followed the suspect into the parking and observed the man with his wallet get into a vehicle with two other men.
As the men tried to drive away, the victim jumped onto the suspect's vehicle, fought with the suspect through the car's sunroof and retrieved his wallet.
The victim suffered a minor injury to his leg when he fell off of the car. The suspects were last seen driving south on NC 48 in a four door Honda Accord.
