Body found wrapped in plastic

DURHAM COUNTY

The body was found next to Old Oxford Highway, near the intersection with Hamlin Road.

Detectives on the scene said the state crew was picking up litter when it spotted the body in a heavily wooded area and called authorities around 10 a.m.

The body was so badly decomposed that homicide detectives weren't sure if it was a man or a woman. They said they were taking their time excavating around the body to make sure they got all the evidence they could. The wooded terrain was making their job more difficult.

Deputies were checking missing persons records in the area, but said the medical examiner would have to make a positive identification.
