Police confirmed Friday that they're investigating the discovery of a woman's body near Fort Bragg.

The human remains were found on Neptune Drive off Bragg Boulevard around 8:15 a.m.

Fayetteville Police Department spokesman Dan Grubb said workers with the Public Works Commission were on a construction site near the base when they discovered the body of a white female approximately 30 years old lying in the area.

Detectives were treating the case as a homicide.

Police have been tight lipped about the investigation, but they have identified the victim as 21-year-old Carrie Marie Welch.

Investigators were seen collecting clues spread over a wide area - including fresh tire marks. They wouldn't say how the woman died.

The death is the tenth homicide in Fayetteville this year. Police want the public's help solving this latest. Anyone with information is asked to call the Fayetteville Police Department at (910) 433-1856 or 483-TIPS.
