Freight train derails in downtown Raleigh

RALEIGH Multiple rescue and EMS crews responded to the scene just before 4 p.m. Sunday, but were quickly called off after it was discovered no one was hurt.

Raleigh Police say traffic is not blocked, and there is no hazardous materials leak, although they say the potential exists.

A spokesperson for Norfolk Southern says seven of the train's 108 cars derailed, including one containing ethanol. The two locomotives remain on the tracks.

Special equipment is being called in to right the derailed cars, but the process could take hours.
