Man hospitalized after water rescue

DURHAM It happened around 7 p.m. at the Woods Edge Apartment Complex on Hope Valley Road in Durham.

Eyewitnesses say they found a man at the bottom of the pool and someone jumped in to save him.

Jeanie Yetimoglu says she was inside the pool doing water aerobics when all of a sudden one of the children yelled that a man appeared to be in trouble.

"The guy was just laying at the bottom of the pool ... he wasn't moving or anything," she said.

Yetimoglu says a man saw what was going on and immediately took action.

"He jumped in and then he pushed him up and we pulled him out," she said.

She says someone else dialed 911 and the group of people started working together to help save the life of a man they did not know.

"You don't think about it, you just think about saving somebody," Yetimoglu said. "There were a few times when we were doing CPR that he did start breathing."

The victim was taken to Duke University Medical Center, but his condition is not known at this time.

Authorities have not identified the victim, but ABC11 Eyewitness News has learned he is a 41-year-old man.

Further details about the incident have not been released.
