Police capture escaped inmate in Raleigh

RALEIGH Late Saturday, law enforcement officials in tactical gear were seen searching for Shaw in the area of 2001 Pleasant Union Church Road in North Raleigh, where he once lived with his mother and family.

Officials say a tip led them to the search area, but they did not comment further.

They eventually caught up with Shaw at about 9:30pm Saturday, at the New Hope Commons shopping center off New Bern Avenue.

The Division of Prisons says they had 30 people from the DOC's PERT team searching, plus three K9 units, the Wake County Sheriff's Office, and the State Highway Patrol.

They say he "visibly hasn't been seen" there, but did not go into further detail.

Shaw was last seen wearing inmate issued clothing -- a white t-shirt, brown pants and black boots. He is considered extremely dangerous.

According to the Department of Corrections, he has many relatives who live in northern Wake County and Raleigh.

Shaw was serving time on a previous conviction and awaiting trial on a local bank robbery.

Anyone who thinks they've seen Shaw should contact authorities.
