Smithfield boil water advisory cancelled

SMITHFIELD, N.C. The order was cancelled at 3:45pm Sunday, following full tests of the entire water system.

All of those tests were negative for any form of contamination, including coliform, according to town officials.

Even though the advisory has been lifted, Smithfield will continue to do extensive testing, while also trying to revise sampling techniques to avoid a repeat of the most recent advisories caused by single tests.

Hospitals, restaurants, motels, hotels, nursing homes, and daycare facilites will still have to work with the Health Department to transition back to normal operations.
