Deputies: Man burned woman, shaved head

PIKEVILLE, NC

Captain Tom Effler told ABC11 that deputies went to 216 Little Dove Road Wednesday morning after getting a call about an injured woman.

Effler said the investigation revealed the woman had run away from a home at 409 Little Dove Road where she had been held captive for several days.

The woman - who was not identified - had bruises and burns on her face and several areas of her body.

Effler said 34-year-old Earl Travis Deans Jr. was holding the woman in his home against her will.

If he left the home, Effler said Deans locked the woman in a closet with hands and feet tied with telephone wire.

Wednesday morning when he left the house, she was able to free herself and run for help.

Effler said in addition to the woman's injuries, her head was shaved.

Deans was placed in the Wayne County jail under a $90,000 bond.
