Man shot in rest stop robbery

GRANVILLE COUNTY

Detective Bryant Strother with the Granville County Sheriff's Office told ABC11 that just before midnight Thursday, two men were robbed at the southbound rest area between Buttner and Oxford.

Strother said the men were in the rest stop bathroom when they were approached by a man somewhere between 18 and 25 years of age.

The suspect shot one of them multiple times. It appears that after robbing the men, the suspect jumped into a gold or silver Nissan Altima.

There is a possibility that an accomplice was in the vehicle, but this has not been confirmed by detectives.

The shooting victim is in an undisclosed hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was expected to have surgery Friday morning.
