Retired Raleigh bishop suffers brain hemorrhage

RALEIGH He was admitted to Moore County Hospital on July 15, but this weekend he's expected to be moved to the health care facility Saint Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines.

The rehabilitation is expected to take several months.

Bishop Michael Burbidge says Bishop Gossman is comforted by the many prayers being offered on his behalf.

Bishop Gossman was installed as the fourth bishop of Raleigh on May 19, 1975. He served as Bishop of Raleigh until his retirement was accepted by Pope Benedict XVI on June 8, 2006.
