Cumberland County Sheriff's Detectives have charged Jonathon Gray, 18, of Fayetteville with the death of his mother. The body of Barbara Towery, 42, was found after firefighters went to a fire at a mobile home located at 456 Star Lane on Saturday.

Investigators say Gray killed his mother and attempted to set her house on fire. Gray was taken into custody early Saturday morning and is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond.

Cumberland County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Debbie Smith told ABC11 Eyewitness News Monday that according to the medical examiner's report, the cause of death is blunt force trauma to the head.

Smith says Towery and her son had an argument, which led to the assault.

Gray was set to make his first court appearance on Monday afternoon in Cumberland County. He is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree arson.
