Fayetteville death investigation now homicide

FAYETTEVILLE

Officers received a call about a dead body around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday on Jefferey Drive off South Reilly Road, about one block from the Cliffdale Road intersection. Police say someone who knows the victim called them.

When police arrived at 6539-B Jefferey Drive, they found 21-year-old Jeremy Michael Dixon deceased.

Neighbors and investigators say no one had heard from the victim since Sunday.

"[He] had not been heard from in at least a day, a day-and-a-half, since Sunday evening," Fayetteville Police spokesperson Dan Grubb told ABC11 Eyewitness News. "So a concerned friend came out around midnight last night..saw the body and immediately called 911."

Police questioned the friend and say at this point, he is not a suspect.

Many questions, however, remain unanswered.

"We're not 100 percent sure the person who is on the lease is the person we found," Grubb said. "Obviously, that's a lead we're going to look into. We're taking to a few other people out here who may or may not have heard something."

Police say there's blood inside the apartment but can't say whether it belongs to him or his killer. In fact, authorities are being very tight-lipped about a lot of information regarding this case.

The investigation is ongoing and a Grubb says he cannot comment on the cause of death at this point.

"And then I'm 100% sure that they're absolutely certain what may have caused the death. You know it takes hours to process the scene and before anything can be moved, he said. "This probably happened with in the last 36 hours. This is a pretty fresh scene right now."
