Changes coming to Wake school board meetings

August 5, 2010 6:46:36 PM PDT
Several changes are coming to the Wake County school board's public comment policy. The school system says speakers will no longer be asked for their address when signing up, only the name of their town or city.

Officials also say speakers holding a seating voucher will be asked for their voucher number on the public comment sign-up sheet. And the speaker can only sign themselves up to speak.

The changes come after chaos erupted recently at school board meetings as opponents protested the school system's vote to move toward community-based schools. They argue it will lead to the resegregation of schools.

The changes to the public comment session will take place at the school board's next meeting on Tuesday.
