Troopers say it appears the SUV's driver turned left in front of the motorcycle.
The motorcycle was crumpled in the crash and the airbags deployed in the minivan.
Authorities say the bike's driver, 62-year-old Randy Lewis, of Wake Forest, died at the scene.
One person in the back seat of the van was put into an ambulance, but the extent of their injures are unclear.
No charges have been filed yet and the investigation is ongoing at this time.
