Donnell Devise Hamilton, Sr., 48, was arrested Wednesday.
Goldsboro detectives say he is accused of attacking a 55-year-old victim. Details of the incident were not released and ABC11 does not generally identify the victims of sexual assault.
While Hamilton was employed as a firefighter with the City of Goldsboro at the time of the alleged incident, police say as of Wednesday he is no longer employed by the city.
Hamilton was in the Wayne County Jail under a $200,000 bond.
