The Durham County Sheriff's Office said it arrested a 19-year-old in connection with an August shooting that killed a 17-year-old.

Detectives arrested 19-year-old Dylan Turner of Durham Wednesday. Turner is charged with the murder of 17-year-old Torian Thornton.

Thornton was shot in the head on August 10 while riding in a car with some friends and died several days later. The incident happened in the parking lot of the Exxon gas station of E. Club Blvd. near I-85.

The driver of the car Thornton was riding in told police they were driving when they noticed a suspicious vehicle following them. The teens pulled into the Exxon parking lot and that's when someone opened fire on their vehicle. Thornton was struck while sitting in the back seat. No one else in the car was injured.

Turner is charged with murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
