Gas leak blocks school buses from routes

HOLLY SPRINGS Residents on a portion of Wild Holly Lane in the Holly Glen subdivision were evacuated as a precaution Monday afternoon after a natural gas line ruptured.

The Holly Springs Fire Department said the mishap happened just after 2 p.m., while a cable company contractor was digging. Escaping gas beneath the street caused the asphalt to buckle until the gas was shut off. However, no fire or explosion occurred. No injuries were reported.

The evacuation area covered approximately 12-14 homes along the 500 block of Wild Holly Lane. Residents received the all-clear to return to their homes shortly after 4 p.m.

School officials told parents with children who ride the black, green, purple, orange, blue and yellow bus routes that they would need to pick up their children at the school.
